- Comments: Blackbird guitars
are handmade in San Francisco. These state of the art instruments have
much to offer players in the respect of durability, playability, and
innovative design. First let me say that this
is a serious instrument in every respect It is full and balanced with
a nice warm edge and plays like a dream. I love the feel of the neck,
round and a bit "meatier" than many of the typical low profile necks
around these days. The most interesting part to me is that, while this
guitar sounds like a good high end instrument, there are many aspects
of the sound that are unique and different than a wood guitar. The attack
is a bit more immediate, and the decay of notes is perhaps a bit shorter,
reminding me of my pre-war Gibson. This is very useful for fingerstyle
players, and I particularly love the way it sounds with slide. There
are 3 [top, bottom bout, and neck] soundports in this guitar, so the
listening experience for the player is quite pleasant, to say the least. Durability and comfort are
also big advantages. The carbon fiber design is NOT susceptible to temperature
or humidity. For those of us who gig in Midwestern winters, this is
a dream come true, and this guitar weighs in at 3-1/2 pounds so it is
also easy to carry. Blackbird has gracefully packaged
futuristic design, superb playability, and a unique quality sound into
a guitar that any serious player would love to own.
